First I will catch you up on yesterday (Friday). Jeff and I went to Athens to celebrate my friend, Penni’s, bday. We went to a great restaurant that had a nice patio and live music. Twas a load of fun.
Penni and Julie H. (Doesn’t the place look nice?)
The lady on the far left is Susan Burger. She is a friend of Penni’s and an AWESOME artist. Google her. She drew a picture of Jade for me that is fabulous. If you go to her website, you can see lots of her work. (Jade’s is posted, too) Her prices are very reasonable. I was glad to meet her.
Dawn and her sis, Colura. Notice Colura’s scarf in the background. Jenna would LOVE that thing!
Penni’s mom, Miss Margaret, is always the life of any party. She had Jeff dancing with her. (Notice: noone else is dancing! She didn’t care and you know JEff didn’t mind!)
Julie and I- Note: I’m not that white- Julie was very sunburned!
This is Craig- Julie H’s husband and Ryleigh’s dad. They rode with us.
This is why I don’t have a Crackbook page. Julie H and Julie W were both updating their pages from the table!
Was a lot of fun!
Now on to today! I went to my first quilt class. I was the youngest by a long shot. Aunt Mary Sue was the closest in age to me. One lady introduced herself as having been sewing since the second World War…..Umm, my parents weren’t even BORN then. She was a wonderful seamstress!
AMS had sewing machine trouble and was about to pack up her applecart and go home when the owner of the shop offered up her machine. I’m very glad b/c the age gap would have widened significantly if she had left. (Besides it’s more fun with her.)
We sorted and planned our quilts.
Dear Jeff had to bring me the feet to my sewing machine. I walked out and totally forgot them. Always bailing me out! (Doesn’t he look thrilled!?)
My fabric is so pretty. (I think it was the prettiest in the class.)
Here I am with one on one help from the teacher, Joan. She was a wonderful teacher.
MOre one on one help.
This lady, TOnya, is at the shop daily. She lives and breathes sewing. Super nice lady.
Here’s me with the teacher again.
1/4 of my quilt is complete. Stay tuned for the rest.
AMS has 1/4 done, too.
AFter a few hours of being home AMS called me and Jeff answered. I could tell she was asking if she could come visit. I told him to tell her if she had more than 1/2 of the quilt done to STAY HOME! She only had 1/2 and it looked very nice. I finished my top half tonight so I caught up. (except Im betting she has stayed up and finished hers- remember she has no small children)
So today I learned a LOT! I mean a LOT> I never dreamed I would even want to quilt, much less could do it half way successfully. I mean AMS could probably seam rip every stitch of mine, but I think it’s pretty good.
I’m not going to enter it into the state fair or anything…I’m just gonna use it to keep warm. Although I think it would do well at the State Fair if I labeled it as follows:
My First Quilt
Jan Mullis
Age 11

Not finished yet, even though I have cut and ripped all of the additional rows. Am still planning out the borders that I am going to add to make it FANCY.
