Phone Dump

Cleaning off my phone pics one last time  this summer.

I did not really make any big projects this summer, but I did sew/monogram quite a bit. I darned a LOT of things for me and Jenna. Normally, I would have thrown these items out, but I was so proud that I knew how to mend them now. Yesterday, I monogrammed this diaper bag for Jade’s teacher. I was right proud of it.

This is a FAVORITE! Yes, please.

At Wal Mart in Destin, AC would get this HUGE buggy for the girls. I wish I had videoed her. This thing would turn on a dime, and AC would take every turn possible. Everyone was laughing. She almost took out a rack of sunscreen. Oops!

I still have concerns about Jade’s ears/hearing/speech. I know she passed her hearing test at the health dept, but I was not giving up. From birth we have known that she had tiny ear tubes that were waxy. (I NEVER clean her ears bc there is never anything there.) I had concerns that she could hear volume, but maybe it was muddled. So, I made an audiologist appointment.

Jade did great! She did a LOT of tests on Jade. Turns out, Jade can hear, but her ears are TINY, congested (even though she isn’t sick), and waxy. The doctor cleaned her ears with a vacuum- WOW! I lost my breath when I saw what came out of her ears. No WONDER! I took pics of the stuff, but I will refrain from blogging it. We will follow up when she is symptomatic (sick), do a biannual clean out, and probably head towards tubes. I am thankful that this is something correctable.

As for her speech, she has a wide vocabulary, but whens he sings she gets the tune, beginning, and ending words, but middle words are often muddled. This was my cue that something was wrong with her hearing. Also, if I sing the song wrong, she knows it, and corrects me. So, stay tuned.

Today is the last day of summer vacation. Boo!

SURPRISE! A Trip to Destin!

Last Wednesday night around 8:30pm, AC called and asked us if we wanted to go to Destin, Florida with her THE NEXT MORNING! Wowzers! Yes, we want to go but all circumstances said, “No!” Every excuse I threw out AC and UJ had a remedy for, so I did what anyone would do…packed our bags! (Jeff had to work. Sad smile)

It’s nearly a 7 hour drive, but with some extra stops, and a Wal Mart run, we made it in 8 hours. The kids (and AC) were well behaved, and the trip was pleasant. Luckily, we gained an hour by heading that far west.

I had not been to Destin in 21 years. It was just as beautiful as ever. I have been to PCB and St George Island in recent years, but I think Destin in my fav!

We were in town only a few minutes before we hit the beach.

AC busted out this old school radio, and Jenna didn’t even know what it was!

See that building in the back? That’s the condo. My toes were in the water when I took this pic. When Destin says, “house on the beach” they mean ON THE BEACH!

I forgot my hat and ended up with this floppy thing from the condo.

We spent every day on the beach. We would go out early (even in the rain!) and then come in for lunch. We ate out a couple times for lunch.

We then would go back to beach and play until 7pm or after. The girls had so much fun! (I did, too!)

Jenna got her first air brushed t-shirt. It’s a gulf coast tradition, I think.

On Sunday morning Anthony and Ashley came in and we spent all day on the beach. UJ arrived later in the afternoon. After several more hours of beach fun, we headed to a yummy dinner.

I have ZERO pics of UJ. I tried to not be tied to my camera so much this trip bc Jeff was not with us, and I had my hands full with the girls. I just tried to enjoy every minute, and not worry about pics. AC was a huge help with the girls and they were on their best behavior.

I drove home with the girls on Monday. I was REALLY nervous about the drive. I have never driven more than 6 hours EVER, especially alone. There were also several dead cell phone spots- one that was close to an hour long! UJ tracked us the whole way and kept tabs on us. Jenna’s phone was able to text in almost every spot, so we were safer than I expected. The girls were excellent on the ride home. We stopped only twice- once at the Florida line for a Subway and restroom. We ate in the car. Then we stopped again in Macon. Jade slept over 3 hours. I am SO thankful!

I am So very thankful for this vacation. This time last week, I had no idea that I was about to go on a wonderful vacation. How sweet!

Many, many thanks AC and UJ! Enjoy the rest of your vacation. (but you won’t read this until you return since there is no Internet at the beach.)

JYF

This past Sunday, I stayed and helped with Jenna’s JYF trip. Miss Debbie had a FULL 2 hours of fun planned.

We worked on painting the stage, got a new surround sound hooked up, ate, and played Bible trivia/ Fear Factor.

Oh, and played Ohh, Ahh. That is where Miss Debbie has 7 gifts/ prizes. As each gift is revealed the kids go, “ohhh, ahhh”. Then, we draw to see who wins the prizes.

In Bible Trivia Fear Factor the boys played the girls. The boys won and chose box 1 for the girls. When I opened the box they THOUGHT it was chocolate ice cream. WRONG- it was POTTED MEAT! gag.

The boys won donuts on a string. They had to eat it no hands….and the string jiggled. So fun!
