Today Jenna was invited to 2 birthday parties (3 girls) at the skating rink- the SAME rink that Todd and I frequented every week.
I am QUITE SURE that I rented this same pair of skates when I was 8. Same laces, same wheels…man, those have held up a LONG time.
same disco ball
The girls and parents LOVED their new scarves!
Jenna begged me to skate with her so I brought my skates that I got for Christmas in 7th grade. Mama bought them bigger than I needed and told me to wear 2 pair of socks and that I could grow into them. Well, I still have to wear 2 pair of socks. Even after 2 children they are too big. (Points for anyone who can name the style of shoelaces that my skates rock.)
Same cash machine. I don’t think I even got to play in it.
Cute roller skate cake..
Joey was the KING of the skating rink back in the day and lo and behold if his mom wasn’t at the rink today. Today she was commenting at how good some of the young boys were on skates. I asked her if she remembered just how good Joey was when he was younger.
Another kid who frequented the rink was Van. Dang if he wasn’t there today, too. Granted he was there with his kids. I doubt he hangs out at the rink these days. As a matter of fact there were 4 adults there today who hung out there when I was in middle school. I find that odd for a Saturday afternoon. I guess we were just doing what it takes to entertain our kids.
Jenna did great skating. She did fall a few times and she think she tore her gluteus maximus. Ha! I managed not to fall at all.
and yes, I tied my skates together and carried them over my shoulder like all the cool kids. So there.

Jan, how I so remember those days! I was a little (cough) older than you, but we use to hang out there too! I have those same skates, but mine have the big yarn ball at the top. Boy, teenagers would not be caught died at the skating rink on a Friday or Saturday night, but when we were teens it was cool to be there. LOL Those were the good ole days!!

Oh my....I remember my roller rink days...I bet the shoes even smelled the same. We would go every weekend too. Maryann was a much better skater than I was. She could do turns and fancy stuff. I was luck to just go straight without falling. Thanks for a "roll" down memory lane.
sounds like fun, so glad you decided to blog...ac
