Sunday, UC’s donkey welcomed a baby donkey. Well, maybe “welcomed” is not the word. The mama, sadly, is not accepting the new baby. (What is a baby donkey? Colt? Calf? Idk- I’ll call it a baby.)
We went over to see the new baby Sunday evening. UC was able to get some donor colostrum was a local farm and is bottle feeding the baby. He is using one of Jade’s old baby bottles. I had saved one of Jade’s to let her play with her dolls. We took it out of the playroom and put it to use.
UC helped Jade take a “ride” on the new donkey. Fear not, UC was holding ALL of Jade’s weight (she just THOUGHT she was riding.) They never even took a step.
Isn’t he cute?
UC will have big job of bottle feeding this baby several times a day. This is right up his alley.
I sure hope the mama accepts the baby. Poor thing. It’s sad when nature doesn’t work perfectly.
***Update: The new donkey has a new home. A local girl who LOVES animals, and has experience with animals adopted the baby, and has plans to nurse it to full health. It is a HUGE task to take on bottle feeding an animal like a donkey. I am excited to watch it grow.
