Math and Science Night

Thursday was Math and Science night at Jenna’s school. Mostly they had just classrooms set up with experiments and demonstrations for the kids.
They were all pretty neat.

Jenna only got to do a few of the demos because she had to be on the gym to demonstrate how to play the math game that she created. Her teacher assigned about 6 of the students an extra assignment a few weeks ago. Jenna spent a LOT of time on this project. She was proud of it and so was I.

Jeff was out of town ALL week and we had some place to be every night. It was CRAZY!
Thursday, my students went on a field trip to Atlanta. We took almost 200 students to Fernbank on school busses. We were all tired!

Revival

This week was revival at the Macs church. They had it Monday and Tuesday night. We could only go Monday night because I had Bible study Tues and Jeff was out of town.

Derrick was in charge of the music and part of the message. I always like to hear him sing/ talk. He did a great job!

I don’t know where Jenna was when I was taking pictures. :(

It was such a nice night. Jade was a HANDFUL during the service, but what’s new?!

Food Drive

Last Saturday morning, I joined AMS and several Jr. BETA members to help distribute food at the monthly food drive.

I heard that day that we distributed 6000 lbs of food, but the email I got after it was said and done, said 11K! WOW, no wonder I was sweating.

We packaged boxes of food for shut ins and handed out food to those who were able to come and pick up.

The guy pictured above is the man in charge. He called out students over and explained to them that we do this because this is the time of month when food stamps run out, pay checks are spent, etc. We always do this the 3rd weekend of the month. I never knew why. I was glad he took the time to teach them.

This next picture kinda describes the pace at which we work. Whew!

Our kids helped the patrons carry their bags. Each family got about 200lbs of food. Our kids were SO tired and worked SO hard. After it was over, EVERY ONE of them asked could they help again next month. We actually had so many volunteers, that we had to turn some away. That’s impressive when you consider that we spent ALL Of Saturday morning do this.

Catch Up

I wanted to be sure and blog about just how wonderful my spa day was. I went on Saturday and spent over 4 hours in near heaven!

I snagged all of these pictures off the spa web page. I thought it would be a bit disruptive to take my camera to the spa.

This is the waiting area. Everything at the spa is jungle themed. I am not sure at times if it isn't the REAl jungle. They play nice soothing music and have the calmest atmosphere.

I started my day with a facial. I could not find a picture of a facial, but I did find a pic of the room where the facial was done. Seriously, this girl did the BEST job ever!
I then headed to the Tea Room to have a YUMMY salad. One day I will post the recipe for it. They served it with hot peppermint tea, fresh, local honey, fruit and cheese. YUM!

Next up was my heated stone massage. It was AWESOME! The girl had to really work on my back. She said it was VERY knotty! Guess I did too much sewing.

Then I went over for a spa pedicure! Now I have bright red, shiny toes. Wonder how long that will last.

One of the perks at this spa is that you get to use this awesome shower after any service. I usually take them up the offer, but this time I needed to get home and I was reluctant to wash off teh oils from my body. They felt so good! This picture makes me wish I had used the shower.

Serenity is THE BEST! I SO enjoyed my day there. Thanks JEff, Jenna, and Jade! What a great birthday present.
Totally NOT a paid advertisment, but I will accept money if they offer. Ha!
Again, photos are from their web page and belong to them.

Baby Mac 2

Todd and Caro have been anxiously awaiting September 20 so that they could have the ultrasound and find out the gender of Baby Mac2. Todd’s insurance only pays for 1 ultrasound at the half way point of the pregnancy. Most of you remember that with Victoria Caro did NOT want to know the gender, but Todd did. So, Todd found out and truly kept it a secret from everyone. Almost everyone expected Victoria would be a boy. (I was one of the FEW who thought girl.)

This time, Todd and Caro were both PLANNING to find out the gender. We even did a pool voting on gender, birthdate, weight, etc. Monday was the day of the big scan…and…..

Baby Mac2 is a………….

HEALTHY BABY……

and that’s ALL we know! (for the record, I STILL say girl!)

She has a beautiful left hand. I wonder if she will be a lefty like Caro and Victoria?

Caro says that her profile looks NOTHING like Victoria’s did. Wonder who she will look like.

Here is a bottom up view. The technician said that she GUESSED it was a girl. (For the record, I have ALWAYS said girl.)

Here is her sweet face.

Now she just needs a name….Wonder what it will be.

She is due to arrive mid February. Poor Victoria will be the only one in the family who doesn’t celebrate that week. (Todd is Feb 11 and Caro is Feb 17)

I am VERY excited to meet my newest Niece. I sure wish they lived closer.

Todd and Caro: I have a GOOD idea. You see, we have a local lady who does fetal imaging for fun (although she is medically trained, too).  She does the scan for like $100 and includes TONS of pics and a DVD video. I saw her twice with both of my girls and I wouldn’t trade that for ANYTHING. So here’s my idea: come to GA for Thanksgiving (or whenever) and get the scan done here. Fabulous!

I had 5 ultrasounds with Jenna and 7 with Jade. I guess my insurance will pay for as many as the doctor orders. I did have a couple extra each time because they were watching me closely for some random complications. I loved every chance I got to see them.

If this is a boy,  I will be as surprised as everyone else was when Victoria was a girl. Nonni was so sure that Vic was a boy that when she did the draft of her Christmas card she was introducing the two newest grandbabies and she had:

We welcomed Jade Hilton Mullis 5-28-08 and Henry William McMichael is due to arrive any day.

Fortunately, she decided to change her mind and did not print the baby’s name. Everyone was SO SURE…HA! (except me!)

Baby Mac2, Aunt Jan is ready to meet you!

Strep Throat

What I thought was just a fever from teething has turning into far worse! Normally, if the girls are sick, I let them stay with the Macs so that I don’t have to miss work. Certainly, I have had to miss a few days over the years, but normally they go to Macs.

I told Jeff last night before the fever even spiked that I just had a strong feeling that I needed to stay home. This is a rare feeling for me. I normally worry about sub plans, my students missing out on teaching, missing meetings, etc. Last night I had a peace about missing work and so I called in and emailed my plans. GOOD CALL!

Jade ended up with a 104 fever! YIKES. She slept well, but we set timers every two hours to take her temp and pump her with meds. We let the fever ride until it topped 102.

 phone 006

I called the doctor this morning and they were able to see her after lunch. We did not have to wait at all! YES! I really suspected it was viral, but that they would send us home with Amoxil anyway.

Jade hates the doctor! She held it together better this time, but she was still NOT happy.

phone 008

The swabbed her throat and said it was a nasty case of Strep throat. YUCK! We now have Amoxil, fluids, and another day at home. I will stay home again tomorrow. After that, she will have 24 hours of antibiotics and can either return to daycare or go to the Macs. We will make that decision tomorrow.

I may have to miss Bible Study tomorrow. I NEVER miss (not even once) unless I am out of town. Jeff has a job at AC and UJ’s tomorrow night, so I might have to stay home with Jade. I will just have to see how tomorrow goes.

phone 007

Check out Jade’s moccasins. Julie got them for her last year while she was in the mountains. We like them!

On my day at home I was able to mop, clean bathrooms, vacuum, make dinner, bake muffins, make spaghetti sauce for another night, complete laundry, and get lots of rest. At least something good came of the day.

Praying Jade is better soon.

Short Post

I will catch the blog up with weekend happenings at a later date…I have to be short tonight because…

this little girl…

 DSC_3013

is sick. :(

When she awoke from her nap we noticed she was warm. Jeff took her temp. and it was over 100. I noticed that she is getting her last two teeth, so I hope that’s what it is. She has acted somewhat fine.

I guess the first clue was when she fell asleep in the floor this morning before church.

DSC_3016

She is lying between the chair and couch in the walkway. I just assumed that I had the house too quiet and she got too comfy.

After church she did not want to go home with Nonni…another sign.

She is funny- She takes the ear thermometer, sticks it in her ear, presses the button, and yells, “99”. IDK where she gets this. Her temp has never been 99. Who knows!

I need to gather some lesson plans in case I need to stay home tomorrow. Jeff has jury duty, so he can’t stay home. Oh well, I have plenty of days and it will be no big deal. I just hope Jade is well for her own good.

In the mean time….Peace (That’s what Jade is signing in this pic)
